New Jersey Teacher 2008 ASCD Outstanding Young Educator Award Recipient

Deirdra Grode, a social studies teacher of seventh and eighth graders at the Hoboken Charter School is the 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Young Educator Award by ASCD.

Dierdre was selected from over 400 nominations by a panel of educational professionals.  She hod a BA degree from Boston College and an MA degree from Teachers College at Columbia University.  She has tought in a Costa Rican village as part of World Teach, and she has spent time as a bilingual outreach worker.

Dierdre was awarded for her success in preparing students to meet and exceed high academic standards and for raising students’ awareness of social justice issues.  She provides students with innovative service learning and character education opportunities regularly.  She instructs the “whole child”.

The ASCD Outstanding Young Educator Award is presented annually to an education professional, 40 years of age or younger, who demonstrates exemplary commitment and exceptional contribution to the profession.
