Each year, NJASCD identifies outstanding New Jersey educators through different awards of recognition.

Dr. Ernest L. Boyer Outstanding Educator Award

The award, known as The Dr. Ernest L. Boyer Outstanding Educator Award, is presented by NJASCD to an educator who has made a major contribution to the field of education and who has exemplified the vision, leadership qualities, and commitment to the improvement of education that characterized the career of Dr. Boyer.

The nomination window is currently closed.

The award will be presented at the annual NJPSA/FEA/NJASCD conference in October 2025.

NJASCD Distinguished Educator Award

NJASCD Distinguished Educator Criteria include:

  • A member of NJASCD for at least three years

  • Active at regional, state, or international ASCD level

  • Current practitioner

  • Serves as an exceptionally skilled and dedicated educator

  • Has made significant contribution to education

  • Demonstrates leadership and innovation in and outside of the classroom

  • Leadership and work should benefit learners from all backgrounds and abilities

  • Has the respect and admiration of students, parents, administrators and colleagues;

  • Emerging Leader Program

    NJASCD is pleased to offer this prestigious recognition and acknowledgement of the incredibly talented educators throughout our state as a way to elevate and amplify their work through the NJASCD Emerging Leader Program. NJASCD’s EL program is an opportunity for educators to join a community that is passionate about teaching, learning and leading and who are dedicated to the whole child. The community will comprise a select group of rising leaders in education who participate in a two-year program where they will have the opportunity to elevate their work within the field and find opportunities to lead, no matter the role in education they serve.

NJASCD is proud to welcome 11 outstanding educators into the Emerging Leader (EL) Class of 2023.  These educators join a community dedicated to both the whole child and to teaching, learning and leading. 

NJASCD introduces and congratulates these educators as our 2023 Class of Emerging Leaders:

  • LeighAnn Matthews, K12 District ESL Instructional Coach, for Bridgewater Raritan Regional School District and NJTESOL/NJBE (NJ Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages/Bilingual Educators)

  • Matthew Kosensky, Supervisor of Science & 21st Century Skills, Dover Public Schools

  • Corey Cohen, Dean of Student, for Franklin Township Public Schools/Franklin Middle School Hamilton Street Campus 

  • Jessica Nathan, Supervisor of Elementary Education, Montville Township Public Schools

  • Angelo Monaco, Supervisor of Before/After School Programs, for Linden Public Schools

  • Mary Beth Libro, First grade teacher, for Ocean City School District

  • Rhonda Pevorus, Principal, for Union Township Elementary School

  • Veronica Fiori, ESL Instructional Coach, for Freehold Borough Public Schools
